WORK

Brief

Rebecca Ding is a wedding and fashion photographer and the aim of the website was to provide a modern, simple and elegant platform to showcase her diverse photography skills. She wanted it to appeal to 25-35 y.o engaged women and potential models looking for a fashion photographer. She didn’t want any colours to dominate, yet wanted the purple to appear around the website, but really the emphasis is on the images. The website appears simple yet has some clever coding elements to ensure this crisp and sleek look is emphasised; the hoverable blog images, the filtering of posts, the use of icons instead of words, the slider.

Many of the graphic elements were given a textured edge and look to match the print materials which are all letterpressed to keep the brand consistent. The amazing branding was by Haley Higgins from Hello Hello Studios, who I often work very closely with :)

Mum’s Manual is an iPhone app which has helpful tips and advice to help new mother’s adjust to their new motherhood! It is a collection of insights by Amanda Scammell (creator), from her own experience and it streamlines the vast amount of resources out there for new mums.

Amanda approached me to do the branding, illustrations, design and website of the app. The aim was to try to create a character who would act like a ‘best-friend’, offering advice to new mothers to guide them through this exciting and overwhelming time of being a new mum.

This was primarily provided through the illustrations of the woman who speaks the daily advice to the new mum. The aim with the logo was to create a logo with a feminine feel to appeal to the new mothers.

The aim of the website was to provide a place where further information could be found, where the owners of the app could ask questions and have their questions answered and to learn more about the app. I again carried through the ideas for the conversational approach of the brand through to the website.

And after many months, Mum’s Manual is ready for launching!

James Day is an amazing wedding photographer who approached Haley (Hello Hello Studio) and myself to work together to revolutionize his already successful brand. His aim was for the identity and the website to reflect him; inviting, outgoing, relational and professional with a touch of child-like innocence. He wanted the website to stand out from his competitors, who primarily use a ProPhotoBlog2 wordpress template. He wanted the website to act as a way to invite people into his home and in doing so, into his life, for when you hire him for wedding photography, he doesn’t want the friendship to end on the day but to continue it into the future.

To promote the launch of his brand, Haley organised a Launch Party at Clifton School of Arts, on May Day (1st May). About 100 people attended and the website received 6000 views in the first week after the launch. Everyone received a hand-made, screen-printed, stripy bow-tie, drank home-made lemonade and received a chocolate freckle in the James Day packaging. It was such a tops day! There are more photos below but if you want to see the whole event, please click here

Brief

Social Anxiety is the extreme fear of being embarrassed or judged in a social situation. It is the most common of all anxiety disorders and is most prominent in those aged 15-25 in Australia. My project, Too Scared to Speak, is a campaign which aims to communicate the experience of social anxiety in a series of short videos, drawn from the experiences of sufferers which reveal their hidden thoughts and fears through typography. The videos depict a broad spectrum of circumstances which people with anxiety experience on a daily basis. The aim is to use this diversity from mild to extreme social anxiety to reach the broadest number of young people. These videos will act as a visual litmus test for the audience to consider if they have social anxiety with the ultimate aim to increase help-seeking behaviour in those aged 15-25.

To achieve this, these videos shall be hosted on the website, which acts as a bridge between the viewer and psychiatric help. It contains further information about the disorder, blogs and interactive surveys which will direct viewers to further help.

The website will be promoted through a viral video campaign, a television commercial and a series of posters and billboards. The commercial aims to draw in viewers through showing the diverse situations and finishing with the quote “14% of young Australians experience this”, which aims to provoke thought and interest in the viewers, with the aim for them to investigate more about it online.

brief

The church I work at, Gymea Anglican Church, has a partnership with many churches around Sydney under the banner of the Soul Revival Jesus Movement. It has been gathering momentum for several years now and in a surge to coherently streamline the ethos of the movement, there was a need for this to be communicated in a streamlined website which fits within the rest of the brand. The aim was to create a website which is clear, easy to navigate, and is able to communicate to both the youth and also to other Youth Ministers who are seeking to find out more information. To view it live on the internet, please click here.

The other websites are ones specifically for Gymea Anglican Church, one is for the youth http://gymeaanglican.soulrevival.org.au and the other is for the wider church, www.gymeaanglican.org.au. The aim with these sites was to also maintain the visual consistency of the SRJM site (as it was born in Gymea Anglican 20 years ago).

Brief

Over the years I have shot many videos for Gymea Anglican and Soul Revival. The primary aims of these videos are to chronicle an event, capture the feel and vibe, and also to communicate a particular value. These have been most common when one video was put on this website, through www.sydneyanglicans.net and thousands of people were able to understand the values and expression of this youth movement. I really enjoy making videos and some of them have been completed with the help of my amazing mate Michael Gray, click here to check out his stuff.

Here is a growing collection of the videos I enjoy the most.
